​Beloved, DU MERCI ORPHANGE have come a long way since 1992 to be established as the first PRIVATE CHRISTIAN ORPHANAGE in the Islamic city of Kano State, Nigeria; caring for ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN (OVC); developing their capabilities educationally, empowering and establishing them with sustainable life time skills.

 

Through a humble beginning, children below the age of 17 years of age were cared for, providing them with temporal or permanent shelter, food, clothing, medication, education, sports and many other services which are beyond comprehension: such as rehabilitation and  referral, counseling for drug and substance abuse, alcoholism, teenage pregnancy cases and crises, (pro-life) abortion , anti-natal and child delivery referral, family reconciliation, reunion and integration, etc. All this is because of the increasing vulnerable position of children.

 

It is a fact that Children are at risk from their very moment before conception, even within their own families. We are aware of the destructive effects that the rough edge of our society have inflicted on them through wars, religious riots and terrorism (mortality, abduction/ kidnapping ,rape, hunger, lost of parents, etc), abortion, divorce, homelessness, child labor, pornography, trafficking, HIV/AIDs, childhood diseases and other form of child degradation, etc.

 

However, it is for the orphans and vulnerable children that our hearts cry out for. We should not stand by, fold our hands and watch them suffer and die in their thousands; issues that face them today are not their problem, but ours in general. We should therefore identify these areas and commit our lives to addressing them in whatever capacity God will enable us.
